The Elementary Mathematics Education Program is an undergraduate program within the Department of Mathematics and Science Education, Kilisli Muallim Rıfat Faculty of Education. The Elementary Mathematics Education undergraduate program started admitting students as of the Fall semester of the 2020–2021 academic year.
Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Mathematics Education
A student who has completed high school and wishes to enroll in our program gains the right to study in the undergraduate program by completing the processes determined by ÖSYM within the framework of the university’s academic and legal regulations. In addition, a student who has started their education in an equivalent program domestically or abroad may apply for transfer. Student admissions are evaluated before the start of the semester, taking into account each student’s conditions and the degree they applied for. Students coming from a foreign university with a protocol approved by the university may take the courses taught in English in the department. If the student has Turkish Language Proficiency, they may also take the Turkish courses in the program catalog.
Students who successfully complete undergraduate education may be admitted to graduate (master’s and doctoral) programs provided that they obtain a sufficient score in ALES or an equivalent exam and have a sufficient level of English language proficiency.
The student must successfully complete at least the minimum credit requirement stipulated in the entire curriculum of the relevant department or program, and the Weighted Grade Point Average must be at least 2.00 out of 4.00.
Students who successfully complete the program earn a Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Mathematics Education and hold the title of Elementary Mathematics Teacher. Graduates can work as teachers in the Ministry of National Education and private schools affiliated with it.
Exams are evaluated out of 100 points. The weights of the midterm and final exam scores to be used in calculating the achievement grade are proposed to the Rectorate by the relevant boards, taking into account the characteristics of the courses. In addition, at the beginning of the semester, the instructor of the course makes an announcement covering the course content, all matters on which the calculation of the achievement grade will be based, the relevant resources, and the time to be allocated to students outside class hours.
Within the Department of Science Education of Kilisli Muallim Rıfat Faculty of Education, students have been admitted to the undergraduate program since 2011 and to the master’s program since 2014. Educational and training activities are carried out in the Rıfat Kazancıoğlu building on the central campus.

Those who complete the undergraduate program can work as Science Teachers in private and public middle schools affiliated with the Ministry of National Education. Our graduates can also work as research assistants in relevant units of universities. In addition, our graduates have opportunities to find employment in organizations that engage in activities such as content development and book design for middle school science courses and similar courses.
